PRESENTATION COMPETITION

Tuesday, November 17

Each year, TAMU GIS Day hosts a geospatial student research presentation exhibition and competition. This event is judged by a panel of audience members and experts in the field.

We invite all students from Texas A&M University and the Health Science Center to submit their geospatial work. Participants will have the opportunity to win prizes (best team or individual submission) proudly sponsored by the following organization:

Prizes

Great prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place entries!

  • 1st Prize $200
  • 2nd Prize $100
  • 3rd Prize $50

* Prizes provided by the University Libraries.

Registration and Abstract Submission

  • Date: November 9, 2020

Eligibility

Only current TAMU graduate and undergraduate students are eligible to participate in this competition.

Finalist Selection

  • Finalists will be notified on November 16, 2020
  • Finalists will be expected to present an oral presentation at the Presentation Competition Session (Tuesday, November 17th)
  • Only finalists will be allowed to present at the Presentation Competition Session

Presentation Competition Session

All finalists will be required to deliver an oral presentation.

First Place Award Announcement

Winners will be announced on Wednesday, November 18 at the GIS Industry Panel & Lunch & Awards session.

Abstract Guidelines

  • Any GIS and Remote Sensing work will be accepted
  • Submit an abstract of your individual or team work
  • Submit ongoing or completed work
  • Abstracts should include introduction, objectives, approach, results, discussion, and conclusions (or their equivalents)
  • Word limit: 500 words or less
  • No figures, tables, or references

Presentation Guidelines

  • 10 minute oral presentation + 5 minutes for questions
  • Powerpoint encouraged
  • Presentation should include introduction, objectives, approach, results, discussion, and conclusions (or their equivalents)
  • Only individuals and/or teams selected as finalists will present in the competition session

Judging

All finalists and the winner will be selected by a panel of TAMU faculty and industry guests.

  • Finalists selection criteria: Contribution to or use of GIS as described in abstract
  • Overall winner: Quality of abstract and oral presentation

Competition Rules

  • Any GIS and/or Remote Sensing work will be accepted.
  • Submission may be of ongoing or completed work.
  • Submissions may be for individual or team work.
  • You may submit unlimited entries per person.
  • A map is not required on your submission, but you are submitting to a GIS Day Competition, so...
  • Abstract submissions should include introduction, objectives, approach, results, discussion, and conclusions (or their equivalents).
  • Submisisons must be original - unique work.
  • Abstract submissions must be in pdf format.
  • Abstract Submissions may not to exceed 10MB.
  • Winners do not have to be present to win but maintain the responsibility of collecting any prizes that are won in the contest.
  • Winners will be responsible for any government taxes.
  • Only individuals and/or teams selected as finalists will present in the competition session.
  • Prizes - 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will be awarded.
  • Only one (1) prize can be awarded per entry (even if an entry has multiple authors, only one prize is awarded).
